What’s your role at RPC?

I’m the Construction Managing Director here at RPC. I’m have final responsibility for all the construction activities on our projects from the ‘ready to build’ phase until they are handled to the Asset Management and O&M team. I also support with the technical due diligence of the projects that we are looking to acquire and the O&M contracts to be signed for the ongoing projects

What’s a typical working day for you?

It normally starts with me checking emails and attending some internal meetings. During the day I follow up the ongoing projects with the different subcontractors and/or service providers. I manage any deviation on the projects to minimize the impact on the budget and schedule. Additionally, I closely monitor Quality, Health and Safety, which are a must for us. We need to be on top of our contractors to ensure that they reach our requirements. During the meetings we decide the different strategies to implement. It is very interesting to be exposed to such different topics, that allow me to expand my knowledge of other company areas.

What have you found during your time at RPC?

That a different company culture can be found from the one I was used to from previous experiences. It is amazing what a great team we have and how easy it is to work with all of the team. All the people here are willing to help even if what they have been asked to do it is not within their job description. It makes the job much easier.  Last but not least, the board of directors are really close and supportive. They listen to the team’s point of view on different topics, so we can all have an impact in the results.

What’s your proudest career moment?

I was the project manager responsible for getting the first renewable projects connected to the grid in Dominican Republic and Peru. It was really challenging since some of the requirements weren’t 100% clear/defined. By working close with the DSO/TSO, we were able to solve all the issues well in advance and the projects were connected smoothly and without any delay.

What do you do in your spare time?

I’m a family man. I also like to hang out with friends and family. As a hobby I would mention mountain hiking.

Where’s your favourite place in Europe?

The answer depends on the activity: Tourism: Rome. Getting lost on its streets always allows me to find amazing new places. Also having a pizza siting by the edge of the Fontana the Trevi is unbeatable.   Hobbies: any peak high enough with good sights of the surroundings. Being Spanish I’m more used to our mountains and here I’ll choose Monte Perdido but I’m planning to attack the Alpes or the Tatras soon!!!

What’s your favourite clean technology and why?

I’m definitely a wind guy. Seeing how the technology has evolved during the last decade, it’s amazing. I remember installing 1.5MW WTG and now we are looking at 7.2MW per WTG and just for onshore projects (offshore ones are even bigger). It has been also great to see how the projects don’t need any subsidy to be profitable and how we can contribute to the different countries to rely less on external supplies for generating electricity at reasonable low prices.
